How many vitamins does beer contain?

Beer is a rich source of B vitamins originating from the malt and from the brewer’s yeast. The wealth of B vitamins depends on a number of factors such as the ingredients used and the actual brewing method. This accounts for the fact that the amount of B vitamins in beer varies considerably according to the particular type of beer. The quantity for vitamin B12 (cobalamine), expressed in µg/litre beer, is between 90 and 140, which corresponds with about half the daily requirement of B12 from consumption of one litre.

The following concentrations have been observed for the other B vitamins:

  • Vitamin B1 (Thiamin): 5 to 150 µg/l
  • Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin): 300 to 1 300 µg/l
  • Vitamin B3 (Nicotinamide): 5 000 to 20 000 µg/l
  • Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid): 400 to 1 200 µg/l
  • Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine): 400 to 1 700 µg/l
  • Vitamin B7 (Mesoinositol): 27 000 to 31 000 µg/l
  • Vitamin B9 (Folic acid): 100 to 2 000 µg/l
