Regular exercise, moderate alcohol consumption and not smoking prolongs life, even among the over-70s!

Research at the University of Cleveland among a thousand subjects aged between 72 and 98 reveals that a combination of regular physical exercise and moderate alcohol consumption prolongs life, provided that you do not smoke. The beneficial impact applies into advanced old age and is greatest with regular exercise.

Active persons live the longest. If they also happen to drink alcohol in moderation, then their life expectancy is further increased. This group enjoy good general health. Smoking, on the other hand, is harmful to the health, at all ages, regardless of whether you practice sport regularly or not. The researchers tracked the participants over a period of nine years. During that period, 374 participants died and 78 became to ill to continue in the research.
