19/11/2007 TOO MUCH IRON IN THE BLOOD
Question: What effect will beer have on someone with too much iron in the blood? Answer: Beer (of the pils or lager type) contains an average of 0.20 to 0.60 mg iron per litre. An intake of 0.15 mg is sufficient to maintain the necessary amount of iron . If you already have too much iron in your blood (which is the case for 3 to 4 persons per thousand), you must be careful with a diet that contains a large amount of iron. You should therefore, just like for many other iron-rich components of the diet, exercise caution with beer. It is in any case advised to discuss your diet with your general practitioner or a dietician. |
